About this tour

Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world, sitting at 3,680 metres, and Chandrashila – the peak just above it – is one of the few places in the Himalayas where a genuinely easy trek gets you a genuinely hard to reach view: Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Kedarnath and Trishul, all in one 360 degree turn. The whole thing is only 5 kilometres one way from Chopta, doable by a reasonably fit beginner in a single push, which is exactly why it’s one of the most rewarding short treks in India per kilometre climbed. This trip drives up from Rishikesh or Haridwar, sleeps two nights in Chopta’s meadows, and gives the trek itself an entire dedicated day – no rushing, no cutting the summit short.
